Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maine invites applications for a fixed-length academic year appointment as Lecturer. This position is for one year, potentially renewable depending on funding and mutual interest. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2018. Well-qualified candidates from all areas of mathematics and mathematics education are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who can work collaboratively with our faculty in teaching Calculus and Precalculus, including the development of innovative teaching practices.

A Master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education or a related area is required by date of hire; a Ph.D. is preferred. Demonstrated effective teaching is required, as are excellent written and oral communication skills. Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching, and collaborative work with the coordinators of multi-section lower-level courses. The normal teaching load for this position is three courses per semester.

Located on the northern border of beautiful Downeast Maine, the University of Maine, Orono, is the flagship campus of the University of Maine System and is the principal graduate institution in the state. It is the state’s land grant and sea grant university, enrolling 12,000 students. The Department offers BA and MA degrees.
