The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Wesleyan University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professorship in mathematics to begin in fall, 2018. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as a Visiting Assistant Professor; a successful candidate may be hired as a Visiting Instructor if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in mathematics within the year of service. Candidates with active research interests in common with current members of the Department would be particularly welcome.

Teaching duties will be five courses in the year of service.

Wesleyan University is a leading liberal arts school with approximately 3000 students, located in Middletown, Connecticut, halfway between Boston and New York and also halfway between Hartford and New Haven. The university has graduate programs leading to doctoral and masters degrees in the sciences and ethnomusicology. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science awards the Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, and the M.A. degree in Mathematics as well as in Computer Science. There are 14 mathematicians and 7 computer scientists in the department, as well as approximately 17 graduate students. The low student to faculty ratio ensures close contact between faculty and graduate students. Wesleyan values both scholarship and teaching very highly and has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body.
