Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications for the position of Mathematics Lecturer/QEP Director, ideally beginning Fall 2018, but the position may start in Spring 2019 or Fall 2019. This is a 12-month faculty position at the rank of Lecturer. This position will teach, provide leadership, management, assessment, and supervision for the university’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The teaching load for this position will be four courses per academic year. Below is a list of job duties and responsibilities.   • This position will be responsible for managing the existing developmental math courses and creating and maintaining a proposed new developmental math course. Specifically, this position will be maintaining and revising the syllabi, maintaining supply of the textbooks to faculty, revising the departmental exams, coordinating with instructors, creating/maintaining/revising homework and quizzes for developmental math courses. • This position is responsible for assessing the developmental math programs and the QEP. • Manage the math labs on a daily basis. • This position will work closely with the AUM Learning Center and is responsible for hiring/training/scheduling QEP assistants/tutors/mentors. • Manage/maintain/revise math placement test. • This position will design and oversee the Non-Course Based Options (supplemental remedial instruction). • Other QEP implementation as stipulated in the QEP.

Founded in 1967, AUM is the metropolitan campus of Auburn University and serves a diverse student body of around 5,000 students. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a bachelor’s degree in computer science, a master’s degree in computer science, and a master’s degree in computer information systems and cyber security. In addition, the department coordinates a two-year pre-engineering program that prepares students to transfer to an engineering school (usually the main campus of Auburn University).

Successful candidates must have earned at least a Master’s degree in Mathematics, or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics. Evidence of excellence in teaching and interpersonal communication skills is also required. Experience in teaching mathematics for elementary education, developmental mathematics or credit core courses is a plus. Some administrative experience is also a plus. Successful candidates will have a commitment to service at both the departmental and university levels.
