Assistant or Associate Professor of Data Science or Statistics 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Houston - Downtown is inviting applications for one position in Data Science or Statistics with Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computational Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or related fields. The position can be at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications, to begin August 2019. We seek candidates with commitment to teaching excellence in a diverse student community, research potential, possible industry experience, and willingness to actively participate in curriculum development and provide professional service to the department and the university. 

- Ability to teach Data Science and Statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in a variety of formats including face-to-face, hybrid, online, and problem based classes  
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate student projects  
- Knowledge of statistical software packages, such as R, Python, and SQL  
- Excellent oral and written communication skills 
- Provide leadership in curriculum development and professional service  
- Demonstrated commitment to service to the university, profession, and community 
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders 
- Industry experience is highly valuable

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UHD has 16 Tenured, 4 Tenure Track faculty members, and 14 Lecturers, and offers undergraduate and graduate mathematics, statistics, and data science courses to over 5,000 students each semester. In addition, the department offers BS and BA in Mathematics, BS in Applied Statistics, BS in Data Science, and MS in Data Analytics.
