Department of Mathematics

Over the past decade, the College of Natural Sciences at CSU has invested in Data Science, yielding dramatic cross disciplinary research collaborations. This investment recently culminated in the creation of a new major – the Bachelor of Science in Data Science. To meet the demands of this new major, and to build upon the College’s successes in Data Science research, the University and College is planning a major systematic investment in Data Science including the development of MS and PhD degrees and the addition of at least six new faculty lines, two in each of the departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics, over the next few years.

The Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of Data Science. The department is seeking a mathematician who is doing significant Data Science, with a strong research program as well as a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. The Department of Mathematics is one of three departments, along with the departments of computer science and statistics, sharing responsibility for a new major in Data Science. This search is intended to complement the Department’s research groups related to data science, and also to support the new major. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses as assigned by the Department Chair, as well as the continued development of an excellent and well-recognized research program. Service to the department, college, university and community are also encouraged.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, complete curriculum vitae, a teaching statement (limited to 3 pages), including the applicant’s potential to contribute to the new major in data science, a research statement (limited to 3 pages), and three letters of recommendation, with at least one addressing the candidate’s teaching, and lastly a personal statement on your contribution and commitment to diversity and equal access.
