Tenure-track Faculty in Mathematical Biology (TTFMB)

Subject to the availability of funding, the School of Mathematics at Georgia Tech expects to make one or more tenure-track faculty hires in the area of Mathematical Biology. This position presents exceptional opportunities in foundational research, in training programs, and in cross-disciplinary connections. Expertise in the School includes, immunology, microbial dynamics, a number of areas at the interface of molecular biology and discrete mathematics, disease transmission, biological networks, mathematical neuroscience, bioinformatics and statistical methods in biology, and aggregation dynamics. The leadership for the recently funded NSF-Simons Center – The Southeast Center for Mathematics and Biology - is located in the School of Math at Georgia Tech. Furthermore, the School is a key partner in several programs at Georgia Tech, including PhD programs in Quantitative Biology and Biostatistics. Georgia Tech has a variety of complementary strengths, including biomedical engineering, neuroscience, biochemistry, and data analysis in the life sciences, just to name a few. The School plays leadership roles in TRIAD, the cross-disciplinary NSF-funded center in data science, and the NSF-funded research training hub in Geometry and Topology (GTGT).

Priority will be given to those candidates who: (1) show the potential to carry out research of exceptional quality at Georgia Tech; (2) complement existing strengths in the School of Mathematics, listed at http://www.math.gatech.edu/faculty-research-interests; (3) enhance connections to other programs and units at Georgia Tech; (4) have strong potential for external funding; (5) demonstrate enthusiasm and potential for supervision of junior researchers at all levels; and (6) have a demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as the duties will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses. Additional alignment with School of Math strategic priorities, such as previous collaboration with biological or life sciences or the potential for engagement with diverse communities, will be considered a plus. For additional information on the School, see http://www.math.gatech.edu.

We encourage applications from active independent researchers in all areas of Mathematical Biology, with direct links to biology and the life sciences. Appointments at the assistant professor level are preferred, but exceptional candidates at all ranks will be considered. A Ph.D. (or its equivalent) in Mathematics or a closely related field is required. Applications should also include evidence of teaching interest and abilities. Candidates for Associate and Full Professor positions should submit a statement outlining their vision for leadership and service as a senior faculty member at Georgia Tech.

Applications should consist of a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications, a summary of future research plans, evidence of teaching interest and abilities, and at least three letters of reference. Applications should be submitted directly to http://www.mathjobs.org. In exceptional circumstances where electronic submission is not possible, applications may be sent to the Hiring Committee, School of Mathematics, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, 30332-0160, USA. For full consideration applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all materials before November 1, 2018. However, consideration of applications is ongoing until positions are filled. Applications by highly qualified candidates from groups underrepresented in the mathematical sciences are particularly encouraged, as well as those with the skills and commitment to engage productively with diverse communities. Georgia Tech is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any classification protected by federal, state, or local law.
