Southern Connecticut State University's Mathematics Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics Education. Located in historic New Haven, a city rich in art and culture, Southern Connecticut State University is a diverse and student-centered university dedicated to academic excellence, access, and service for the public good. Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship/creative activity. Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach. The Mathematics Department is seeking to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2019. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in mathematics education and mathematics, including introductory-level courses in the Department of Mathematics, foundational courses in the Liberal Education Program and select upper-level and graduate courses related to area of expertise. The successful candidate must be committed to teaching within a vibrant/demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring and doing research with undergraduates. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service. Normal teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester. Teaching load may be reduced to 10 credits by serving as the Department Certification Coordinator.p>

Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct research/creative activity in their area of expertise. Creative activities include publishing articles in academic and professional journals, mentoring student research leading to publication of theses, seeking outside funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.

Required Qualifications: Doctorate in Mathematics Education or Mathematics is required. A candidate for this position must be someone with experience/interest in the mathematical preparation of secondary/elementary school teachers. A candidate must show evidence of quality teaching and potential for scholarly growth. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, candidate should have earned doctorate by time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to a candidate with the following qualifications: Evidence of experience in the 7–12 arena, evidence of experience in the supervision of teachers, familiarity with the CAEP / NCTM standards for teacher educators and CCSS Standards for Mathematical Practice and Content, evidence of using mathematics-specific technology in teaching, experience in teaching courses for both pre-service and in-service teachers, demonstrated interest in the school profile of SCSU. An outstanding candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and an established research program. Experience working with or teaching pre-service or in-service teachers is also preferred.
