Position Description:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at DePaul University invites applications for one tenure-track position in mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin September 2019. Applicants must have a PhD in one of the mathematical sciences in-hand by December 2nd, 2018. With an overall enrollment of over 22,000 students, DePaul is the nation’s twelfth largest private non-profit university. While the university is large, the class size in the department typically does not exceed 40 students. We seek candidates with a demonstrated record of effectiveness as the instructor for a variety of courses or teaching environments, a demonstrated commitment to continued development as an educator, and active engagement in high-quality research.

DePaul University is committed to the education of first-generation college students, especially those from diverse cultural and ethnic groups in the Chicago metropolitan area. As such, we seek to develop a faculty that reflects the diversity of our student body and the city of Chicago. Applicants who have experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and who can contribute to an inclusive climate are encouraged to identify their experiences in these areas. Women and members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Our department offers a variety of degrees at the undergraduate and Master’s levels. We have active research groups in algebra, analysis, combinatorics, probability, and statistics, but strong candidates from all areas of research are encouraged to apply. The typical teaching load for faculty who are actively engaged in research and service is two courses per quarter. Completed applications must be uploaded to MathJobs.org by December 2nd, 2018. These must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, a statement of research interests and goals, and transcripts indicating that a PhD in one of the mathematical sciences has been or will be conferred by the application deadline. Three letters of recommendation are required, including at least one that specifically addresses the applicant’s teaching experience and effectiveness, and at least one addressing the applicant’s research. Applicants are also encouraged to supply additional evidence of teaching effectiveness and formal teaching evaluation summaries.

In addition to applying through MathJobs.org, applicants must upload a cover letter and curriculum vitae at DePaul’s Human Resources page: http://facultyopportunities.depaul.edu/postings/2138.
