POSITION: The SUNY Cortland Mathematics Department invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning in Fall 2019. RESPONSIBILITIES: Major responsibilities include teaching courses for mathematics majors and for non-majors, engaging in research and other scholarly activities, providing service to the department and college, and providing academic advisement and mentoring to majors in the department. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in the mathematical sciences expected by time of appointment with specialization in statistics; previous experience teaching college-level mathematics; evidence of effectiveness in teaching; and strong oral and written communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates with expertise in actuarial or financial mathematics are encouraged to apply. Experience with educational technology, obtaining external grants, directing student research projects, and collaboration with colleagues from other departments is also highly desirable. THE DEPARTMENT: The Mathematics Department has approximately 150 undergraduate majors in either adolescence education or liberal arts mathematics. THE COLLEGE AND COMMUNITY: The College is known for a number of its flagship liberal arts programs in the natural and social sciences, arts and humanities as well as its programs in teacher education. Our many programs are designed to support our commitment to civic responsibility, environmental responsibility, international education, professional education and social justice. More than 90 percent of SUNY Cortland’s 7,200 undergraduate and graduate students gain hands-on experience through internships, volunteerism, civic engagement and study abroad. Its three schools: arts and sciences, education and professional studies are committed to excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, service and international education. The campus is located in the geographic center of New York State and is a half-hour drive from Syracuse and Ithaca and four hours from New York City and Philadelphia.
