Job Description: The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor. These are nine-month positions and the anticipated start date is July 1, 2019. The level is to be determined by the Department and will be comparable to their experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Salary, start-up, and benefit packages are highly competitive. Applicants must have a PhD degree in mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related area by the time of appointment. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in research and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Duties of this appointment include research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service to the Department. The positions are intended to support the new MS and PhD programs in Statistics and Data Science and to contribute to the teaching of core courses in the Department’s mathematics and statistics curriculum. New faculty are expected to maintain an active research program and establish interdisciplinary collaborations within and across department and college boundaries. All areas of statistics and data science are considered.

Required Qualifications: PhD degree in mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related area by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications: A strong record of research and teaching, and experience advising PhD students, is preferred of candidates considered for the Associate Professor level.

Department Information: The Department has ~40 graduate students and more than 250 majors, and it is home to a dynamic group of over 20 graduate faculty with diverse interests and expertise in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Probability, Statistics, and Data Science.
