Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science. Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution in the suburban Columbus, Ohio area, invites applications for a tenure-track position in mathematics or mathematics education at the rank of assistant professor, beginning Fall 2019. Candidates with expertise in all areas of mathematics, or mathematics education, will be considered.

The mathematics program at Otterbein is unique in that mathematics majors begin, in their first semester, a study of advanced calculus and abstract algebra, while simultaneously studying computational calculus. Our students pursue a rigorous course of study, while also enjoying the quality instruction and individualized attention that is a hallmark of our university. Our department offers undergraduate degrees in mathematics, mathematics with teaching licensure, and actuarial science. Additionally, we have a graduate program in educational mathematics, with advanced courses aimed at current and future secondary school teachers. We have a relatively large department for the size of the university, because there is a university-wide mathematics requirement for graduation. For this reason, half of our teaching schedules serve this need.

Responsibilities: provide high quality instruction, pursue an active research agenda, and provide service to the university.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Mathematics or Mathematics Education by the time of appointment is required. Documented evidence, usually through teaching evaluations and/or peer review, is also required.

Application: Send letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, three (3) current letters of recommendation including letters that address teaching experience, and a diversity statement which, in no more than one single-spaced page, addresses the following two questions:  How do you incorporate diversity into your classrooms?  How do notions or values of diversity, equity and inclusion influence you as a teacher or scholar?   Send application materials to: Dr. Paul Eisenstein, Dean, School of Arts and Sciences, Otterbein University, 1 South Grove Street, Westerville, OH USA 43081. Email submissions:  E-mail submission preferred. Applications should be submitted by January 11, 2019. Visit us at  for further information.
