The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Pure Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall Semester 2019. Join a growing and dynamic group of mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators actively engaged in teaching and scholarship.  

The Position: Throughout the academic year, you will typically teach a mix of courses in mathematics at the lower division, upper division, and graduate levels. As part of your professional development, we encourage you to engage our graduate students in your scholarly activities. Optimally, you will eventually become the academic adviser of some of our graduate students, helping them by supervising their thesis topics. There are many service opportunities available within our department, college, and university. 

Cal Poly Pomona has a student body with many different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and learning styles. Minimum Qualifications:  
  • A Ph. D. in Mathematics with expertise in algebra or number theory (or a related area such as algebraic geometry) from an accredited university by August 1, 2019. 
  • University teaching experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the excellence of our diverse academic community through teaching, research, and service as well as a commitment to work in an inclusive environment. 

Preferred/Desired Qualifications: 
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and the ability to teach upper division and graduate mathematics classes. 
  • Evidence of excellence in conducting scholarly research activities and the ability to direct Master’s thesis students.

The Department:

Over 30 full-time faculty with a baccalaureate program providing two major options: pure mathematics/secondary teaching or applied mathematics/statistics. Graduate emphases in: pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and mathematics education. Approximately 600 undergraduate majors,125 mathematics minors, and 65 graduate majors. Serving over 5,000 students each semester.
