Position Description:    

Tenure-track Position in Number Theory in the Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at the University of Dayton seeks applicants with expertise and skills in number theory for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level starting August 16, 2019.  The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda and seek opportunities to collaborate with researchers with the department, the university and the wider community.  They will also be expected to teach three courses per semester, participate in the life and development of the Department of Mathematics, and work with students from diverse backgrounds both in the classroom and on research and capstone projects as opportunities arise.  Applicants must have active and ongoing research in an area of number theory (MSC 11).  Applicants must also possess excellent written communication skills and have the potential to become an effective teacher of mathematics.  Applicants must complete all requirements for a PhD in Mathematics by July 1, 2019.

A complete application consists of a cover letter, CV, a statement of research agenda, a statement of teaching philosophy, a listing of all courses the applicant has taught, an unofficial graduate school transcript and three letters of recommendation.  Teaching abilities must be addressed in at least one letter and research abilities must be addressed in at least one letter.  If available, applicants are encouraged to submit summaries of recent teaching evaluations.  Applicants whose PhD has not been conferred at the time of application must submit a statement from their PhD advisor indicating the anticipated timeline for completion of the degree. Applications are due by December 5, 2018, and all letters of reference must be received by December 10, 2018.
