The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics. This is a full-time, three-year faculty position beginning in July 2019. The position is eligible for employee benefits, and may be renewable.

The ideal candidate will be a teacher and scholar who can offer courses in mathematics at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, and who has interests and expertise in an area of pure mathematics. The position carries a teaching load of three courses per semester, and requires ongoing scholarly activity in the form of publications and presentations. Other duties include advising students, conducting independent studies, supervising students in their senior projects, and participating in department activities.

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements: Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field in-hand by time of appointment or status as an advanced ABD, evidence of scholarly achievement, and an excellent record of teaching at the undergraduate level. Applicants must also demonstrate a clear understanding of and strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts institution and willingness to contribute to the department’s focus on teaching to both majors and non-majors.
