The Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at the university of Texas at Austin invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The work will be performed through the Partnership for Multiscale Gyrokinetic Turbulence (MGK) SciDAC Center, and focused on computational and mathematical aspects of statistical data mining.

The MGK SciDAC center is spearheading an initiative to prototype, develop, and extend a large database framework for the international magnetic fusion energy community. The work will involve a broad understanding of data mining and advanced data analytics, as well as the ability to work within an active and collaborative international group environment/team. This project will include developing a state-of-the-art database framework for large cross-simulation and experimental data sets, as well as an expanding set of advanced data analytic tools. Among the data mining tools being used and developed will be: multi-fidelity algorithms, variance reduction mappings, a broad range of uncertainty quantification tools, and deep machine learning capabilities.

Candidates should have strong computer skills, some background (or interest) in statistics and/or numerical methods, the ability to operate together in multi-disciplinary teams, and a working understanding of physics.

The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with an option to extend if funding is available and performance is satisfactory. The candidate is not expected to teach. Applicants should send a CV and statement of research interests to Craig Michoski at . Applications will be considered immediately.
