The
Department of Mathematics at Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications
for two one-year visiting positions in Mathematics (pending approval). Employment will begin in August 2019 and the
standard teaching load is six courses per year.
All candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in Mathematics by August 1,
2019. Areas of interest include
computational mathematics, financial mathematics and statistics, but other
areas will be considered. The successful
candidate must be able to teach our core mathematics curriculum. Ability
to teach a 2-course math sequence for Elementary Education majors is a plus,
for one of the positions. Candidates
should be dedicated to excellent teaching in a liberal arts environment where
undergraduate research is encouraged.
The opportunity to participate in university-wide general education
programs is available for interested faculty. Illinois
Wesleyan University is a highly selective undergraduate university of about 1,770
students, located in Bloomington, Illinois, a community of about 130,000 when
combined with the population of its twin city, Normal. This year, the average composite ACT score for
Illinois Wesleyan first-year students is 27, an average high school GPA of 3.74,
and one third were the top 10 percent of their high school class. In past years, close to 3% of the students at
Illinois Wesleyan University have declared majors in mathematics.
The
Department of Mathematics has six tenure lines in mathematics. The mathematics program maintains a healthy
balance between applied and pure mathematics.
Faculty areas of professional expertise include graph theory and
combinatorics, topology, algebra, linear algebra, numerical analysis,
approximation theory, wavelet analysis, differential equations, dynamical
systems, probability and statistics, survival analysis, and computational
statistics, with an affiliated faculty member in number theory and cryptography.
