The Mathematics Department [] at the University of California, Santa Cruz, expects to have one or more Visiting Assistant Professorships subject to availability of funding. We invite applications from qualified mathematicians in all fields. Preference will be given to candidates whose field of research aligns well with the Department’s research activities. The Visiting Assistant Professor will pursue a program of independent scholarship and will be expected to provide intellectual expertise to the campus in his or her area of focus. Additionally, the incumbent will be expected to contribute to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, teach, mentor and advise students at the graduate and undergraduate level individually and in the classroom, and undertake service obligations for the department. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service. 

Visiting Assistant Professor  

Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis. 

PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in Mathematics or closely related field. It is expected that the degree requirement must be completed by August 31, 2019. 
Evidence of research and teaching college level Mathematics. 

July 1, 2019, with fall quarter beginning September 2019. Appointments are contingent upon availability of funding. Degree requirement must be completed by August 31, 2019 for employment beyond September 1, 2019.  

Initial appointment will be full‐time for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.
