RESPONSIBILITIES:
|
The
Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Minnesota State University,
Mankato invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in
Mathematics beginning August 19, 2019. This position requires teaching and
advising to support the undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematics.
This position also requires active engagement in scholarship, advising of
master's thesis, continuing preparation, and service to the university,
community, and discipline. This faculty member will be expected to contribute
to the diversity of the undergraduate and graduate programs, department,
college, and university.
- A typical
faculty workload responsibility may include up to twelve (12) credits
per semester of instruction.
- Teach a wide
range of mathematics courses including undergraduate and graduate
courses such as abstract algebra or advanced linear algebra. The
successful candidate may need to teach in other areas in mathematics as
assigned and qualified.
- May be
expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line
instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's
additional locations, as assigned.
- The successful
candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design,
instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor
students in research, help create innovative strategies for student
recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop
external grant funding opportunities.
- All faculty
members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or
research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to
student growth and development, and in providing service to the
university and community (see Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
|
- Earned
doctorate in mathematics with an emphasis in algebra and/or strongly
related areas (If ABD, degree must be conferred on an official
transcript and received in Human Resources prior to August 1, 2019.)
- Demonstrated
experience to teach college level mathematics.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Demonstrated commitment
to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated
effective written, oral communication, teaching, and/or presentation
skills.
- Ability to
teach a wide range of mathematics courses including undergraduate and/or
graduate courses such as abstract algebra or advanced linear algebra.
- Commitment to
scholarly activities in the department and engagement in professional
services.
- Interest in
developing curriculum in abstract algebra and related areas.
- Demonstrated
ability to develop a sustainable research program in mathematics and/or
its applications.
- Experience in
teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Postdoctoral
experience.
- Experience in
mentoring students and supervising undergraduate or graduate level
research.
- Ability
to seek funding for research and/or curriculum development individually
and/or collaboratively.
