£50,132 - £58,089 per annum Ref: 100821-118

Permanent Position

This is an opportunity to join one of the world’s most prominent and most research-active departments of Statistics at the Associate Professor level. We are particularly interested in attracting excellent academics in applied statistics, statistical machine learning or data science but will also consider a broader range compatible with research interests in the department (to be interpreted in the widest sense and to include applied and methodological statistics, statistical machine learning, data science, probability, probabilistic operational research and mathematical finance together with interdisciplinary topics involving one or more of these areas). The Department of Statistics is one of the most successful departments in the University of Warwick. Its research spans a broad range of areas in theoretical and applied probability, finance, statistical methodology, computational statistics and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our teaching programmes attract exceptional students at all levels. We currently have over 600 undergraduate students on degree courses in MORSE, Mathematics and Statistics (MathStats) and Data Science and 100 postgraduate students on the MSc Statistics, MSc Financial Mathematics and PhD degree streams. Major strategic initiatives in recent years include the establishment of the Centre for Research in Statistical Methodology (CRiSM) as a catalyst for statistical research, the Applied Statistics & Risk Unit (AS&RU), which promotes and coordinates external partnerships, and the national Academy for PhD Training in Statistics (APTS). The department has close relations with the colocated Mathematics Institute and Department of Computer Science and other departments such as Economics and the Warwick Business School, and is strongly engaged with the Alan Turing Institute in London. It is planned that interviews will take place in March 2019.

Please would all applicants ensure that their referees send a letter of reference by email to Paula.Matthews@stats.warwick.ac.uk (Department Administrator) by the closing date. Informal enquires can be addressed to Professors Barbel Finkenstadt (b.f.finkenstadt@warwick.ac.uk) and Gareth Roberts (gareth.o.roberts@warwick.ac.uk) or to any other senior member of the Warwick Statistics Department. Start date: flexible, although we would prefer the successful candidate to be in post by 1 September 2019.
