Position Description:    

The William & Mary Data Science Program invites applications for a three-year, non-tenure-track lecturer position, with the possibility of a contract extension depending on performance and funding. Position will begin August 10, 2019. We seek a strong teacher-advisor who can both successfully teach python-based courses in data analytics, as well as help students navigate the rapidly growing Data Science Program at William & Mary. The position carries a typical teaching load of three courses during the fall and spring semesters, with one course release for administrative duties to the Data Science Program.

The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of data analytics, with a strong interest in teaching to multidisciplinary, liberal arts audiences, including students in disciplines outside of traditional STEM areas. Experience in using alternative data analysis languages, such as R. The successful candidate will teach introductory modeling for Data Science, machine learning, and an upper-level Data Science course in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Required Qualifications M.S. or ABD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or advanced degree with published work that utilizes extensive big data analytics.

Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or Geography by the time the appointment begins, August 10, 2019. Prior university teaching experience and applied experience outside of academic settings is preferred.
