Mathematics Education, Renewable Term Positions

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Oklahoma is seeking to strengthen its First-Year Mathematics program. OU is experiencing an exciting multi-year period of growth that is in part fueled by its noteworthy retention of incoming students. We are looking for candidates who understand the balance of meeting the needs of incoming students while maintaining academic excellence. We encourage dynamic and innovative individuals to apply for one of two full-time, renewable term faculty positions beginning August 2019.

For both positions, normal duties consist of teaching the equivalent of 12 credits per semester and rendering service to the department, university, and profession. Some evening work would be expected to help with review sessions run through the Mathematics Help Center prior to coordinated examinations. One of the positions will involve engaging in outreach with area high schools.

Expectations 

Requirements for successful candidates include: 
  • an earned Master’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education
  • a record of considerable experience with exemplary teaching in: 
    • post-secondary, first-year calculus courses offered for STEM majors
    • post-secondary, first-year applied calculus courses (e.g., calculus courses offered for business, life science, or social science majors)
  • experience using digital resources and tools related to instruction and assessment including:
    • at least one type of course learning management platform
    • graphing calculators
Other desirable qualities of candidates include, but are not limited to: 
experience teaching secondary mathematics courses (for the position involving outreach, this is a requirement) 
  • documented excellence in teaching 
  • experience teaching courses that are coordinated as well as courses that are not coordinated 
  • experience teaching large lecture sections
  • experience teaching mathematics courses that precede or follow first-year calculus
  • experience tutoring in a mathematics help center or mathematics tutoring center 
  • willingness and ability to use common digital resources in mathematics instruction and assessment (e.g., WebWork, GradeScope, LaTex)
