The Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering of Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the position of 

 University Professor (Salary Scale W2 BBesO) 
 for Continuous Optimization 

at the Institute of Mathematics as soon as possible. 

The candidate should have worked in one of the following fields: optimization in PDEs, optimal control, variational inequalities, parameter identification, or non-linear/adaptive approximations. A particular focus should lie on applications in Engineering Sciences. 

We are looking for internationally renowned personalities with a research focus that complements the main research areas of the Institute of Mathematics. The holder of the position should actively participate in the further development of the research profile in the field of applied mathematics and in the development of the new program "Industrial and Technomathematics", which started in the winter semester 2017/18. He or she should have a pronounced affinity towards interdisciplinary work and application-oriented questions, and should fit in with the main research areas of the TU Clausthal in terms of his/her possible working areas.

Regarding the teaching, we expect the candidate to contribute to the program “Industrial- and Applied Mathematics”, by taking over responsibility both for the basic mathematical education as well as for the service for other disciplines. Thus, being able to teach in German is a prerequisite. 

Applicants are expected to be willing to participate in coordinated interdisciplinary programmes. 

The requirements of the position are defined in Section 25 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG).

Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects or corresponding industrial experience is expected.

The willingness to hold courses in German and English is a prerequisite. Strong commitment to teaching is expected.
