Postdoc in Evaluation of EOR Potential by Gas/water Flooding in Chalk Oil Reservoirs

The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applicants for a position on investigations of gas and water flooding mechanisms and models in the context of advanced recovery methods. Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU is established by the Danish Underground Consortium and DTU. As part of a national strategy on oil and gas, the research centre is an ambitious, targeted effort to improve recovery of oil and gas from the Danish North Sea.

 

Responsibilities and tasks

The position will be an integrated part of the Advanced Water Flooding and the Tight Reservoir Development programmes with the focus on improving oil recovery in chalk reservoirs in the Danish part of the North Sea. In this context, the candidate is expected to perform innovative, and applied research on understanding of  gas and water flooding in tight chalk formations.  The candidate should set-up and develop various applied reservoir simulations for modified salinity water flooding and gas flooding in  (fractured) chalk reservoirs. Co-supervising of Ph.D./MSc students working with reservoir simulation and collaboration with other researchers and students working with water/gas flooding experiments are required. The team will participate in a growing cross-disciplinary research program, involving several researchers at DTU and other Danish universities, research institutes, and industry. The team will have access to unique field and laboratory data sets to test concepts and methods developed at the centre. 

 

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in applied mathematics, computational fluid dynamics,petroleum, hydrogeology, chemical, mechanical engineering or other relevant areas;
  • Good knowledge of dynamic reservoir modelling (e.g. ECLIPSE, CMG) for gas and water flooding;
  • Excellent skills in compositional simulations;
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of multiphase flow, geochemistry and geomechanics in porous media;
  • Previous experience with devloping numerical codes for modelling coupled flow and transport in porous formations with discrete geological features ishighly advantageous.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment;

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The overarching purpose of The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre is to identify new technological and conceptual solutions that will enable increased oil and gas extraction in the Danish section of the North Sea. The research activities at the centre cover selected aspects of expertise: Reservoir characterization, Enhanced Oil & Gas Recovery Processes, Drilling & Production Technology Concepts and Production Facilities, Materials Research & Design. The centre will develop deep, new understanding within these disciplines with a line-of-sight to application. Located at The Technical University of Denmark research groups at the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, Aalborg University and the Geological Survey of Greenland and Denmark will be affiliated with the Centre. When fully operational, the centre will employ and engage more than 100 people.
