Assistant or Associate Professor, Mathematics Education

We are seeking an advanced assistant professor, or an associate professor, to take duties in our study programs Mathematics for Teacher Education (bachelor) and Teacher Education of Mathematics for Upper Secondary Schools (master). Applications are invited from candidates with active research in mathematics education and an adequate publication record (commensurate with experience). The starting date is negotiable within the year 2020. We offer a renewable three years’ contract, with a possibility of tenure-track. The starting salary range is 40000–55000 CZK (currently about 1550-2150 EUR), depending on the experience of the candidate.

Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate in mathematics education or a related field and must possess a solid mathematics background and experience with mathematics education at lower or upper secondary schools or universities. Candidates for the position must be willing to contribute to teaching and program development in the teacher education, conduct research, publish in significant refereed journals, and seek outside funding.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University is the leading institution in mathematics in Czechia; mathematics teacher education has a long-time tradition here (over fifty years). The Department of Mathematics Education offers an open minded and affable environment for research and teaching; we collaborate with other specializations in the teacher education program, with other university departments, and with our local partnership high schools. Responsibilities

  • academic research
  • teaching load 6-8 hours per week, advising theses
  • in near future, curriculum development and administrative duties within the program

Requirements

  • PhD in Mathematics Education, at least one postdoctoral position after receiving PhD
  • research activity in mathematics education
  • experience teaching mathematics at high schools (K5-K12 level) or university
  • strong interest in teaching
  • basic academic management skills
  • active knowledge of the Czech or Slovak language is not necessary, but will be required for any contract extension
