The Mathematics Department at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in response to a call from the Provost, seeks exceptional candidates for a strategic hiring initiative. Candidates must show evidence of potential for excellence in research and high-quality teaching. All research areas of interest to current departmental faculty will be considered. According to the call from the Provost, candidates must also exhibit at least one of the following characteristics:

a) demonstrated experience and success working with students of diverse backgrounds and interests; OR b) a well-developed program of research/scholarship/creative activity related to the study of underserved population(s), social, economic, educational, or other disparities.

The timeline for us to select candidates is very short, and the deadline for applications is September 25, 2019. We will review applications as they are uploaded. The position is likely at the assistant professor level, but exceptional candidates at higher rank, whose work in a) or b) is highly established and whose research is exceptionally strong, may be considered.

Candidates must apply via, and upload a complete curriculum vitae. Candidates must also include a cover letter addressing the criteria a) or b) above, as well as identifying faculty at the University of Tennessee with whom they have the potential to collaborate. Applicants who do not submit such a cover letter will not be considered. If possible in the time frame, candidates may request that letters of reference be submitted. Candidates, especially at higher ranks, who wish their candidacy to remain confidential as long as possible should state this in the cover letter, and confidentially will be respected until the candidate communicates otherwise.
