POSITION: One full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics at the rank of assistant professor

STARTING DATE: 1 July 2020

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teach at all levels of the undergraduate mathematics curriculum including quantitative reasoning courses for non-majors and courses in the data science program. 2. Assist with the development of a data science major. 3. Assist students as an advisor in academic and career planning. 4. Maintain an active research program. 5. Perform the normal duties of a faculty member, including committee work and involvement in college-wide activities.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics by 15 August 2020. 2. College teaching experience, preferably beyond the level of teaching assistant. 3. Research that complements the areas of expertise of current departmental faculty. 4. Interest in and plans for pursuing collaborative research with undergraduate students, particularly in the area of data science. 5. Breadth of educational background. 6. Strong commitment to student-centered education that emphasizes critical and creative thinking. 7. Ability to relate well to colleagues, students, and staff in a small-college environment.

The mathematics department at Linfield College includes six full-time, tenure/tenure-track faculty. While the department serves an important role in support of other disciplines, especially in the natural sciences, computer science, economics and finance, it also maintains an active program of preparing students for graduate study in mathematics, careers in teaching, and other non-academic careers. The department graduates approximately 15 majors and 15—20 minors each year.
