The newest addition to the California State University system, California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 with 629 transfer students and welcomed its first freshman class in fall 2003. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities not only in the Cal State system but also in the nation. Indeed, in its 2018 ranking, U.S. News & World Report listed CSUCI as the 18th highest-ranked public university in the regional western United States.

Moreover, CSUCI was ranked 18th of over 1,300 schools in CollegeNET’s Social Mobility Index in 2017. CSUCI is a public comprehensive university that engages students in critical inquiry and is dedicated to educating leaders for a global society. CSUCI is located in Ventura County and home to more than 6,800 undergraduate and 240 graduate students. About the Program:

The Mathematics Department at CSUCI has several programs: a BS in Mathematics with a choice between four tracks in Pure Math, Applied Math, Math Education, and Statistics, an MS in Mathematics, and minors in Mathematics, Data Analysis, Foundational Mathematics, and Philosophy. The Mathematics program is also responsible for teaching the vast majority of First Year Students in a quantitative reasoning course. Our faculty are actively engaged in curriculum development, research collaborations, grant acquisitions, student projects, and service to the campus and community. We encourage our faculty as they implement innovative, or evidence-based high impact practices, student centered learning activities, and foster an inclusive learning environment. We support a collegial environment and shared governance.

Required Qualifications: • Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics or closely related field from an accredited institution • Evidence of on-going research activities in data analysis, statistics or math modeling. • Excellence in teaching with a variety of methodologies. • Experience with modern software (such as R, SAS, Python, various data bases). • Experience with and commitment to working in a multiethnic, multilingual, and multicultural environment. • Applicants should demonstrate the ability and commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of successful mentoring minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, African-American, and Native American students. Preferred Qualifications: • broadly trained, with the ability and interest in teaching a wide range of courses • expertise in statistics and data analytics • record of or plan for grant and contract acquisition • experience with interdisciplinary research and/or collaborations • plans to engage students in research projects
