Applicants are required to have a PhD, and an established research record in mathematics or statistics. Duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, independent research, and service. To be considered for permanent positions, applicants must be able to teach in Chinese.
The Department of Mathematics expects to have quite a few newly created permanent positions available in the next three years. In addition, there will be several postdoctoral openings in every academic year. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of research, and at least three letters of recommendation. It is located on the Pacific coast and the Tropic of Cancer. The city has an urban population of 2 million (5 million in the area), and is well-connected to the rest of China by highway, high-speed railway and air. Shantou University is established in 1981. The Department of Mathematics enrolled its first students in 1984. Currently, the university has a student population over 10,000. There are 32 faculty members, 2 postdocs, 315 undergraduate students (mathematics or statistics major), 85 master students and 28 doctoral students, in the math department. The research areas of faculty members include algebraic geometry, algebraic groups, number theory, complex analysis and harmonic analysis, PDEs, geometric analysis, complex geometry, algebraic and geometric topology, representation theory, dynamic systems, ergodic theory, numerical analysis, wavelets and frames, operational research, probability and statistics, image processing etc. |
