UW draws over 13,500 students from all 50 states and 87 countries. The Mathematics and Statistics Department consists of approximately 30 full-time faculty and 30 graduate students. We teach over 27,000 student credit hours per academic year, making the Mathematics and Statistics Department integral to the success of undergraduate programs across campus. The University of Wyoming is considered a RU/H: Research University (high research activity) by the Carnegie Classifications.


The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Wyoming seeks to fill an Academic Professional Lecturer (APL) position at the rank of assistant lecturer beginning August 2020. This is a full-time benefited position. This position is associated with the department’s tutoring center and, in addition to teaching, job duties for this position will include professional development, advising, and service associated with the center. The expected teaching load is two courses per term.


The primary responsibilities of this position are effective teaching, advising, service, and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the continuing development of the department’s tutoring center and to provide support and leadership for the department's lower-division program (courses in algebra, precalculus, trigonometry, and calculus). Such leadership includes curriculum enhancement, pedagogical innovation, development of student instructors, and articulation with Wyoming high schools and community colleges. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.


(1) Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics;
(2) Relevant experience teaching at the college level;
(3) Strong oral and written communication skills.

(2) Experience developing a tutoring center to enhance student success in the mathematical sciences;
(3) Experience in pedagogical innovations;
(4) Experience with instructor training and development.
