Position Description:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Lebanon Valley College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor beginning August 2020. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field at that time. Responsibilities include teaching four 3-credit courses per semester, continuing scholarly activity (broadly defined), and general participation in the activities of the department and the College.

More than 10% of the College’s students major in one of our four programs: Actuarial Science, Analytical Finance, Computer & Data Science, and Mathematics. Our faculty also play a significant role in general education, work closely with our students outside the classroom, and occupy positions of leadership in College governance.

Learning math at LVC is different. Our course goals focus on teaching students to read technical content, to think critically about open-ended problems, and to communicate to varied audiences through written and oral presentations. Our approach has led to extraordinary student outcomes, including near-100% placement in internships, employment, and graduate school. Indeed, our primary measure of success as a department is the success of our students.

The decades-long success of our department has depended on our math faculty’s ability to develop new expertise on the job. Whether it’s a topologist learning actuarial science or an analyst learning data science, we seek candidates who are flexible, intellectually omnivorous, and eager to join us in these varied roles. We encourage you to read more about our department at www.lvc.edu/mathematics/hiring.

To apply, please submit a cover letter that addresses how your experience and qualifications align with our position, c.v., teaching statement, and three letters of reference, at least two of which address your teaching to our posting on MathJobs.

To ensure full consideration of your application, submit all materials by December 6. We will be conducting interviews via videoconference the week of December 16.

Lebanon Valley College has a commitment to excellence through its employment practices and welcomes applications from candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society and world.
