Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Mathematics

Penn State Schuylkill invites applications for faculty position, Lecturer (master level) or Assistant Teaching Professor (doctoral level) position in Mathematics (multi-year appointment, 2 years with option for renewal, 36 weeks) to begin August 2020 or as negotiated. The Penn State Schuylkill STEM faculty are searching for a colleague to teach mathematics and statistics and collaborate with faculty in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and engineering. The successful candidate will support students and provide expertise in mathematics and statistics. In addition, the faculty member is expected to maintain currency in the discipline through participation within their disciplinary community. The specific area of expertise is open, but there is an expectation that the faculty member will be involved in research that benefits the campus, our students and the community and will also provide service to the campus, discipline and society. Responsibilities: Teach four courses (12 credits) each semester. Courses will include math courses at all levels, from remedial to calculus and statistics courses, possibly including biostatistics. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Participate in course, curriculum, and program development. Advise students and provide career guidance. Contribute to the intellectual and social life of the campus, its community engagement mission, and the local community. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. Engage in activities to stay current in the discipline. Qualifications: Master's degree or Doctorate in mathematics, statistics or related field. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, engagement with fellow faculty members in ways that contribute to a scholarly community on campus, active leadership in campus life, and engagement in the community through outreach activities that address regional needs are required. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the use of instructional technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
