The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Bowling Green State University invites applications for a tenured position as the Dr. Thomas V. O’Brien Distinguished Professor of Actuarial Science/Statistics with a start date of August 2020. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications. Minimum qualifications: PhD (or equivalent) in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field (e.g., data science, risk management and insurance); At least six years of post-PhD actuarial science experience in a corporate or academic environment, and a record in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service that meets the department’s criteria for a tenured associate or full professor; Refereed journal articles or book chapters in top tier outlets in Actuarial Science; Fellow or associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), Society of Actuaries (SOA), or other actuarial professional organization; History of external funding to support research.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at BGSU enjoys a nationally ranked doctoral program that offers a full range of graduate programs including two doctoral degree programs (PhD in Mathematics and PhD in Statistics) and undergraduate major programs in actuarial science, statistics, data science, pure math, and applied-math. In addition, the Department (joint with the Departments of Computer Sciences, Applied Statistics & Operations Research) has the recently established PhD/MS in Data Science programs.
