Maximum Salary on Appointment £41,938 per annum

Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London to work in the area of singular stochastic PDEs. The position is funded through a Royal Society research professorship held by Prof. Martin Hairer and the post holder will work directly with Prof. Hairer.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will work on a problem related to the analysis of singular stochastic PDEs or other space-time stochastic processes. The concrete problem(s) will be determined after discussion with the successful candidate.

You are also expected to contribute to the academic life of Prof. Hairer’s research group and the wider stochastic analysis group at Imperial, to interact scientifically with other research staff and students, as well as organise and participate in seminars.

Essential Requirements

The essential requirements for this post are as follow:

• A PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics. • Ability to carry out original research and to produce published research articles. • A strong background in probability theory and analysis. • Original research results in an area closely related to probability or analysis. • Clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research, with a good publication record, commensurate with career stage. • Ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods. • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication. • Ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team. • Ability to prioritise one’s own work in response to deadlines.

The position is fixed term for 24 months. The expected start date is 1 October 2020 or soon thereafter.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
