Research Assistant Professor, Bridge to the Faculty position

The Department has active research programs in a broad spectrum of centrally important areas of pure mathematics, computational and applied mathematics, combinatorics, mathematical computer science and scientific computing, probability and statistics, and mathematics education. Applications are invited for the following position, effective August 16, 2020. Final authorization of the position is subject to the availability of funding.

Bridge to the Faculty is a new postdoctoral program designed to recruit scholars with the goal of transitioning them to tenure-track faculty members after two years. The postdoc position is a non-tenure-track position, normally renewable annually to a maximum of two years. Additionally, successful postdocs will have the opportunity to transition to tenure-track faculty at UIC starting in the 2022-2023 academic year. This recruitment initiative aims to attract and retain promising scholars to UIC as well as diversify our faculty. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.

This position carries a teaching responsibility of two courses per year, and the expectation that the incumbent play a significant role in the research life of the Department. Applicants must show evidence of outstanding research potential in mathematics, computer science, statistics, mathematics education or related field, and must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the start date. The Ph.D. must be from 2016 or after to be considered.

Applicants should provide research, teaching, and diversity statements, a vita, and at least three (3) letters of recommendation including one that addresses teaching. Applicants should address their prior activities, experience, or background that will contribute to the diversity of the campus community in their diversity statement.
