Trinity University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the department of mathematics to start in the fall semester of 2020. A Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field is required. We will consider all fields of specialization but preference will be given to candidates with strong data analysis skills who can make immediate contributions to the vibrant interdisciplinary culture of the department. Trinity’s mathematics department is currently engaged with interdisciplinary programs in mathematical finance, mathematical biology and data analytics. The successful applicant will be expected to be an excellent teacher and mentor, pursue a vigorous research program, contribute to all levels of the mathematics curriculum, contribute to the University's general curriculum, and provide service to the department and University. Trinity University is committed to diversity and inclusion and strongly encourages candidates from underrepresented groups to apply.

Applicants should submit the following to MathJobs.org: cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement and three confidential letters of recommendation. Trinity University embraces the teacher-scholar model and therefore candidates are encouraged to seek letters writers who together can address their abilities and promise as teachers, researchers and mentors. The deadline for receipt of applications is December 20, 2019. For the teaching statement, please provide a concrete description (including examples of successes and challenges) of how your understanding and practice of teaching and learning has developed and your plans for how it will continue to evolve as a member of the Trinity faculty. Additionally, please discuss your experience with strategies for the effective engagement with students from diverse backgrounds, experiences and identities; and the use of varied pedagogies. For the research statement, please discuss how your area of research will make contributions to your field at a small undergraduate institution, and how you could include and inspire undergraduates in your research program. Please also include an abstract that is accessible to an audience of mathematicians from fields of specialization outside of your own.
