Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellowship working with Mark Pollicott and his research group on the ERC-funded research project “Resonances (Resonances and Zeta Functions in Smooth Ergodic Theory)”.

The aim of this project is to develop and implement ideas and methods from hyperbolic dynamics and thermodynamical formalism to understand the zeros and domain of dynamical zeta functions, with a particular view to studying problems in (hyperbolic) geometry and number theory.

We are seeking a candidate with strong research potential, and prior familiarity with some or all of the following areas:

• Hyperbolic Dynamical Systems

• Thermodynamical Formalism and Dynamical Zeta Functions;

• Smooth Ergodic Theory;

• Hyperbolic Geometry and applications to Number Theory;

• Numerical Computation.

The starting date is 1 January 2020, or at a later date of mutual convenience.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942 pa).

Closing date: 16 December 2019.
