The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning in the 2020 – 2021 academic year. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field, a strong commitment to quality teaching, and be active in research. The position carries a standard teaching load of three courses each Fall and Spring semester. Other responsibilities include research in the field of mathematics, advising students, and service to the department, college and university. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Preference may be given to applicants whose research interests broadly align with our graduate sequence in analysis, but strong applicants from all areas of mathematics are encouraged to apply.

Full consideration will be given to all applications that are submitted by December 15th, but applications will also be accepted until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Denver.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 29 tenured or tenure-track faculty in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. The BA, BS, and MS degrees are offered in Mathematics. In addition, the MA degree is offered in Mathematics Education. The MS degree is offered in Statistics, along with Statistics minors at the undergraduate level. The department is actively involved in undergraduate research and developing innovative teaching methods that encourage students to be more actively engaged in the study of mathematics.
