The Department of Mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for an Instructor or Lecturer, specifically for the Actuarial Science program.   The position involves teaching a range of courses in the department.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Teach actuarial science and risk management courses.  These may include large service courses and small discussion sections.
  • Supervise TAs and graders for these courses.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum and stewardship material for these courses.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Actuarial Science or related areas for Instructor.
  • Ph.D. in Actuarial Science or related areas for Lecturer.

NOTE: Related Areas are Statistics, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or another subject appropriate for Actuarial Science.

  • 1 year of college teaching or similar corporate training experience.
  • Passed three preliminary actuarial professional exams.
  • Evidence of quality teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of college teaching or similar corporate training experience
  • Professional credentials such as the Associate or the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, etc.
  • Experience in course development.

Preference will be given to applicants who are Associates or Fellows of one of the professional actuarial societies, or who have made exam progress toward membership.  However, all research areas pertaining to Actuarial Science are welcome.
