The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks applicants for the position of Instructor, to begin Fall 2020. Instructors compose the core of the department’s full-time teaching faculty team, and play a fundamental role in the department’s educational mission. The initial appointment is for a term of three years, with contract renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach a wide range of applied mathematics and statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, including large lower-division classes (between 90-150 students for Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, and Differential Equations/Linear Algebra). Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in statistics and data science, including experience with curriculum development in those areas. The ideal candidate will assist in the development of the department’s nascent professional master’s degree program—which has an emphasis in statistics and data science—as well as the department’s new BA in Statistics and Data Science. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating multi-section courses, supervising teaching assistants, serving on departmental committees, supporting growth in the department’s statistics and data science degree offerings, and advising undergraduate and professional master’s students.
