Illinois Wesleyan University is a highly selective undergraduate university of about 1,600 students, located in Bloomington, Illinois, a community of about 130,000 when combined with the population of its twin city, Normal. This year, the average composite ACT score for Illinois Wesleyan first-year students is 27, an average high school GPA of 3.80, and one third were the top 10 percent of their high school class.

The Department of Mathematics has five tenure lines in mathematics. The mathematics program maintains a healthy balance between applied and pure mathematics. Faculty areas of professional expertise include graph theory and combinatorics, topology, algebra, linear algebra, numerical analysis, approximation theory, wavelet analysis, differential equations, dynamical systems, probability and statistics, survival analysis, and computational statistics, with an affiliated faculty member in number theory and cryptography.
