UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

Mathematics Department

Associate Professor £51,034 - £59,135 per annum Permanent, 36.5 hours per week Location: Coventry Ref: 102764-0220

We invite applications for an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in the vibrant and diverse activities in applied maths, and contribute to the EPSRC-funded MathSys CDT (Centre for Doctoral Training in Mathematics for Real-World Systems). Key actives include the teaching and supervision of MathSys CDT students, and contributing to the management of the centre. Due to the outward-facing nature of our activities, we are interested in candidates who will enhance the impact of MathSys and the Mathematics department through industrial or external engagement. The position would ideally start by September 2020, although a later start-date may be possible by negotiation.

Candidates should hold a mathematical/quantitative PhD and should have some years of postdoctoral experience. We are particularly interested in candidates that are developing novel mathematical approaches for tackling real-world problems. The Department of Mathematics has a strong track record in applied mathematics at the interface of both biology and industry, with world-leading research groups at the Zeeman Institute of Mathematical Biology and the Complexity Centre; and we would welcome candidates that support or complement these interests.

Candidates should wish to build strong research programmes and be committed to teaching. Preference may be given to candidates with an independent research agenda who will: (i) complement existing strengths in the CDT and Department more generally; (ii) bridge between existing areas of expertise within the CDT and Department; or (iii) strengthen mathematical connections with application areas. We are committed to the goals of Athena SWAN and look forward to interest from suitable qualified female applications.

Further information about the MathSys CDT can be found on our webpage: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/mathsys/

Members of the MathSys management team will be happy to respond to any questions, and can be contacted via the MathSys administrator: j.m.perkins@warwick.ac.uk

Your application should include a CV and list of publications. Applicants should ideally arrange for three referees to send letters of recommendation to mathematicsPA@warwick.ac.uk before the closing date. Please note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the reference letters are received by the closing date. The post reference number should be quoted in all correspondence.

Closing date: 22 March 2020.
