The Department of Mathematics at West Virginia University invites applications for two full-time postdoctoral positions to begin August 2020. Initial appointments will be made for two years, renewable for a third year in exceptional cases. We seek scholars in each of the following areas: applied analysis (including dynamical systems, differential equations, fluid mechanics, optimal transport), and discrete mathematics (combinatorics and graph theory).

The positions require a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a closely related field earned within the past five years, evidence of excellent research and teaching ability, ability to establish research collaborations with current Department faculty members (https://www.math.wvu.edu/research_interests), and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates are expected to contribute to teaching in the calculus sequence, with a teaching load of two courses per semester and will have access to professional development opportunities including funding for travel to professional meetings.

The Department of Mathematics includes 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty, about 65 graduate students, and several postdoctoral scholars. West Virginia University is a land grant institution enrolling over 29,000 students and has a Carnegie Classification of R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity. The University is located in Morgantown, WV, an award-winning "small" city with a metropolitan population of about 100,000 within easy travel distance of Pittsburgh and Washington, DC.
