St. Norbert College, located in northeastern Wisconsin, welcomes applications for a full-time, tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning in August, 2021. Applicants should hold a doctorate in mathematics at the time of the appointment. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service. The teaching load is three four-credit undergraduate courses each semester (typically nine 60-minute classes per week).

The St. Norbert College Mathematics Department (www.snc.edu/math) prides itself on excellent teaching and collaborative student-faculty research. Mathematics students have the opportunity to participate in an endowment-funded summer research fellowship specifically for math major and minor degree-seeking students, and give presentations at regional and national meetings, including a Pi Mu Epsilon conference that we host annually. We graduate 15-20 math majors each year who have varied interests including theoretical, applied, and actuarial mathematics, as well as math education. Many students also pursue interdisciplinary studies and double major in a complementary field.

In addition to teaching introductory math courses and courses in the College’s core curriculum, the successful candidate would teach advanced courses in applied and/or actuarial mathematics, including one or more of numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, applied linear algebra, partial differential equations, financial mathematics, and related special topics courses depending on the candidate’s interests and/or specialty. The successful candidate would also be expected to continue a program of scholarly research, and would be expected to eventually mentor undergraduate research projects. Applicants are encouraged to highlight an interest in or experience with teaching students from underrepresented groups, including first generation college students.

St. Norbert College, a Catholic institution rooted in the Norbertine tradition, welcomes applications from members of all backgrounds and faith traditions. The College’s mission emphasizes the Norbertine vision of community and includes providing “an educational environment that fosters intellectual, spiritual and personal development.” We seek those who will contribute to our mission and support our commitment to building a vibrant, diverse and spiritually engaged community (https://www.snc.edu/mission/gettingtoknow.html).

St. Norbert College is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to enhancing the diversity of our people, ideas and talents. We welcome individuals with diverse experiences, backgrounds, and skills to join our college community in our pursuit of inclusion and excellence. Applications from members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged (https://www.snc.edu/diversityaffairs/).

Interested candidates should submit a detailed cover letter addressing how they could contribute to the position as described and how they see themselves as a part of the St. Norbert College community, statements of teaching philosophy and of research interests, and a curriculum vita by clicking on the "apply now" link found here. Candidates should also include a list of three references, including one who can speak to teaching effectiveness, who will be contacted later in the process if necessary. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2020, and continue until the position is filled. Inquiries about the position can be directed to Dr. Seth Meyer at mathsearch2020@snc.edu.
