Job Description: The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for an open non-tenure track position at the rank of Lecturer I/II (MS degree) or Teaching Assistant Professor (PhD degree). The position begins on July 1, 2022.

The position is intended to support the teaching of mathematics content courses for elementary and middle school teachers (for K-8 certification) and core mathematics and statistics (required for all undergraduate students). Duties of this position include teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics and/or statistics classes in small and large sections, supervising and mentoring teaching assistants, holding office hours, developing syllabi, assignments, writing exams, maintaining an LMS presence (e.g. Canvas) and an online HW system presence, performing Department, College, and University service. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Required Qualifications for Lecturer I, II: MS in Mathematics or Statistics, or another mathematical science, and experience teaching lower division mathematics or statistics courses at the university level.

Required Qualifications for Teaching Assistant Professor: A PhD in mathematics, statistics, or another mathematical science OR a PhD in Mathematics Education plus a masters in a mathematical science. Experience teaching lower division mathematics or statistics courses at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those who demonstrate that they can teach or would be willing to learn to teach and seriously embrace our curriculum in “mathematics for elementary and middle school teachers”, given to UNR College of Education students. We expect these courses to evolve as certification rules within Nevada evolve, new math education research emerges at this level, and concerns arise with the Nevada and US Departments of Education. A PhD (in a mathematical science or in mathematics education) is also preferred.
