Postdoctoral position in Mathematics of Machine and Human Learning We invite applications for a postdoctoral position working with Dr. Patrick Shafto (shaftolab.com) in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Rutgers University--Newark. We specifically seek an individual with strong mathematical training and interests in Optimal Transport or adjacent areas of geometry, or convexity broadly construed. The individual would join the Cognitive and Data Sciences lab, a robust interdisciplinary research environment comprised of mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, and behavioral scientists. The position is intended to complement our ongoing research developing foundations of learning. This individual would complement and extend the expertise of a core group of pure mathematicians, as well as researchers studying explainable human-machine teaming, open-world learning, and related mathematical questions. The start date is flexible, but we would prefer an individual who would be available in the summer at the latest. The position would be for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending availability of funds. Candidates should have a strong background in pure mathematics, and interest in machine learning and/or human learning. The application materials should be submitted via Mathjobs and should include: Curriculum vitae List of publications Research statement (brief) Names and contact information for two recommenders. Please send inquiries to patrick.shafto@gmail.com. We will be considering applications on a rolling basis starting February 1, 2022. |
