Position Description:

Emory University seeks an outstanding recent PhD graduate in Mathematics, for a term appointment as an Emory Fellow. These postdoctoral fellowships combine substantial independence with wide-ranging opportunities for professional development, and provide generous resources. Established to complement the newly launched Science Faculty Distinction initiative, Emory Fellowships are a central part of the University’s strategic plan to enhance excellence at all levels. The Fellow will have the chance to pursue research in conjunction with senior faculty members and graduate students, and will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. Salaries are highly competitive. The Fellow will also have access to research funds for travel, equipment and other expenses. Appointments are term-limited (up to three years). This position is subject to final funding approval. For the 2010-11 academic year, the department is particularly interested in fields related to Computational Number Theory, broadly defined, to dovetail with the hiring of a “cluster” of senior faculty in this area.

We invite applications from outstanding junior scholars; candidates must have (or soon receive) a PhD in a relevant discipline, demonstrate promise of exceptional research ability, and have a commitment to excellence in teaching. Applications consisting of a cover letter, CV, research and teaching statements, and three recommendation letters directly from recommenders should be submitted via mathjobs.org. Women and underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply. Informal inquiries are also invited by email. Screening begins May 1, 2010 and will continue until the position is filled. For additional information about the department and Emory’s strategic plan please see: http://www.mathcs.emory.edu/ and http://www.emory.edu/strategicplan/.
