The Department of Mathematics at Dartmouth is delighted to announce a senior opening in the inaugural Jack Byrne Distinguished Professor of Applied Mathematics, with initial appointment as early as 2017- 2018. This new position is one of only a handful of “Distinguished Professorships” at Dartmouth. The successful applicant will be an acknowledged international leader in applied mathematics. The Byrne Distinguished Professor will be one of a cluster of three appointments around the general area of decision sciences and risk analysis, but also sits within the Department of Mathematics, complementing shared research interests. The successful applicant will have an exemplary track record in creating methodological advances and their applications, especially as relates to the health, social, or financial and business sciences. The Byrne Distinguished Professor will also influence a second appointment in the Department of Mathematics for this cluster. The third position will be a Distinguished Professor appointed in Dartmouth’s top-ranked Tuck School of business. These positions represent further investment in the department’s continued efforts to expand its research efforts and related pedagogy in applied mathematics.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of extramural funding and will help to lead our growing applied and computational efforts. Current applied and computational interests in the department include complex systems, computational social sciences, network analysis, statistical learning, mathematical biology, stochastic processes, numerical analysis, PDE, imaging, signal processing and computational number theory. The candidate should also have a keen interest in working with our excellent undergraduate and graduate students.
