The Department of Mathematics at Duke University in Durham, NC invites applications for tenure-track position at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to begin July 1, 2017 or later.

The university seeks a quantitative scientist who will make broad connections to other units within the university. Those who will establish connections to the medical school are particularly encouraged to apply. In the bio-medical direction, two areas of particular interest include Human Genetics and methods and imaging for Cryo-EM. In the physical science direction, one area of particular interest is quantum computing and quantum information. However, we emphasize that applications from all areas of the mathematical sciences will be considered. Other areas of particular interest include optimization, multi-scale computing and modeling, probability and stochastic modeling, and generally those areas which connect mathematics to computer science, statistics, engineering or the biological and physical sciences.

The appointment will be made in connection with the Quantitative Initiative at Duke. The appointment may be in the Mathematics department, in other departments and units, or possibly a joint appointment between units. Broad quantitative scientists with connections to multiple units are particularly encouraged to apply.

Though the field is open, the candidate should contribute to the university's strengths or complement its areas of expertise. Candidates must have exceptional research achievements.
