Special consideration will be given to applicants in the fields of applied math and scientific computing, especially related to nonlinear optics or fluid dynamics. The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) is the graduate school of the U.S. Air Force and is located on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH. The Institute has a total enrollment of approximately 700 resident graduate students, the bulk of whom are Air Force officers. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is one of six departments in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management and conducts graduate classes for practically every program in the Institute. The department faculty consists of approximately half civilian and half military, all actively engaged in research on problems in applied mathematics. Both the MS and PhD degrees are offered with specialization in applied mathematics. AFIT engages in diversity initiatives and strives for campus diversity.
