University of Wisconsin - Madison Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a postdoctoral position with expected start date on or before August 17, 2020. Partial funding is provided by the National Science Foundation for a project on the PDEs of atmospheric dynamics with phase changes of water and clouds. Subject to approval, the appointment will be in conjunction with a partial position as Van Vleck Visiting Assistant Professorship. The appointment is expected to be for a fixed term of three years, with a teaching responsibility of 1 course per semester.

The project activities aim to improve our fundamental understanding of moist atmospheric dynamics with phase changes. To meet this aim, a hierarchy of partial differential equations will be studied, and the topics may include asymptotic analysis (formal and/or rigorous), discontinuous solutions (fronts), observational data analysis based on energy principles and balance relations, and numerical modeling.

The successful candidate will have background in at least one of these broad areas: analysis of partial differential equations, fluid dynamics, applied and computational mathematics; and must demonstrate promise of excellence in research and teaching. Applicants should set up an account at

All application materials should be uploaded to this site, including a completed AMS Standard Cover Sheet, a curriculum vitae which includes a publication list, and brief descriptions of research and teaching. Applicants should arrange to have three or more letters of recommendation delivered through At least one letter must discuss the applicant's teaching experiences and communication skills.
